Ken and Pat Larson

We work together as a collaborative team with no set pattern for this interplay. We each work on what we are best at for the piece and process given our individual expertise.

We've worked with clay for 35 years. Clay is such a flexible medium. all the things you can do with it- fold, paddle, add, subtract, texture, burnish, plus the different firing techniques or raku, blackware, and low temperature salt sagger offer virtually endless possibilities. So every piece starts with clay, although some work is now cold cast bronze or cast stone.

The art is about our lives, experiences, and interests. Because it starts with us- humans- the human form often simplified or abstracted, has become an important element. An ongoing love affair with birds makes up the balance. Combining these focuses has led to exploring the possibilities for interactions between humans and birds, or in an expanded context, between the human race and the environment. That's a lot of stories to tell!
